SOS Alarm

Raising an SOS Alarm

  1. Press and hold the SOS button for 4 seconds to activate your alarm.
  2. Your profile, location, and live audio are automatically sent to the Peoplesafe Alarm Response Centre.
  3. An Alarm Controller will listen in silently for around 10 seconds to assess the situation.
  4. If you can speak freely, do so β€” it helps them respond more quickly.

All alarms are treated as genuine. If you activate by accident, just let the Alarm Controller know. Please don't test the SOS button β€” this can delay help for real emergencies.*

*Unless requested by a member of the Peoplesafe team.

Why Peoplesafe

Why is Peoplesafe faster than 999?

When you raise an alarm, the ARC instantly receives your GPS location, live audio, and your personal risk profile.

Trained operators verify whether the incident is genuine β€” effectively "pre-triaging" the call. In an emergency, they can bypass 999 and contact the nearest police force directly, providing your location, what's happening, and relevant personal risks.

  2. Select Discreet Alarm.
  3. Enable and choose your personal sensitivity level.

If you're using an iPhone, you can customise your alarm using Shortcuts β€” follow this guide to set up.

Question 2 of 5

When should you raise an alarm?

βœ… Correct β€” you don't need to wait for something serious to happen.
Raise an alarm as soon as you feel unsafe, threatened, unwell, or if you witness someone else in distress. You never need to wait for a situation to escalate.
❌ Not quite
You should raise an alarm any time you feel unsafe, threatened, or unwell β€” you don't need to wait.
Question 3 of 5

What should you do if you raise an alarm by mistake?

βœ… Correct!
Simply tell the Alarm Controller "False alarm" β€” they will speak with you and close the alarm once your safety is confirmed. Switching off or ignoring calls will cause concern and keep the alarm open.

Question 4 of 5

Can you test the SOS button whenever you want?

βœ… You are right!
The Peoplesafe ARC is a 24/7 emergency response service. Please do not test the SOS button unless specifically asked by a member of our team. You can check GPS and network connection status on the app home screen at any time.
❌ Not quite
Please do not test the SOS button β€” it activates the emergency service. Check your connection status on the app home screen instead.
During an Alarm

We May Call You During an Alarm

We may contact you during an alarm β€” to speak discreetly, check your welfare, or confirm your location.

You'll receive a call from the Peoplesafe ARC using the number saved in your contacts (via the QR code at the start).

Always answer the call and provide any information the Alarm Controller asks for β€” your name, date of birth, employee reference number, or details about your situation.

Question 5 of 5

What do you do if the Peoplesafe ARC calls you?

βœ… Well done!
Always answer the call and stay on the line until the Alarm Controller confirms what information is needed. Only end the call once they say it's safe to do so.
❌ Not quite
Always answer the call and provide the information the ARC requests. Don't hang up until the Alarm Controller says it's safe.
Fall Detection

Check whether fall detection is enabled on your app.

You can find this on the home screen or in the settings menu.

Fall Detection

How Fall Detection Works

Fall detection automatically raises an alarm if you slip, trip, or fall and are unable to call for help. Your phone monitors for three things: a period of freefall, a change in orientation, and 10 seconds without movement.

If a fall is detected, a notification appears with sound and vibration. You have 30 seconds to cancel β€” if you don't respond, the alarm is automatically raised.

Question β€” Fall Detection

How do you adjust your fall detection sensitivity?

βœ… Right!
Open the Peoplesafe App, navigate to the Fall Detection tile or settings option, adjust the sensitivity to your preference, and confirm.
❌ Not quite

Cancelling a False Fall Alarm

You Have 30 Seconds to Cancel

Option 1 β€” Via the app (all phones):
Tap the notification to open the Peoplesafe app, then tap Cancel Alarm.

Option 2 β€” Shake to cancel (Android only):
Give your phone a short, sharp shake while it's vibrating β€” the alarm will cancel automatically.

You can adjust fall detection sensitivity at any time in the Peoplesafe app settings.

Question β€” Fall Detection

How do you cancel a false fall detection alarm?

βœ… Right!
Tap the notification to open the Peoplesafe app, then tap Cancel Alarm. On Android you can also give your phone a short, sharp shake.
❌ Not quite
Tap the notification to open the Peoplesafe app and tap Cancel Alarm. Turning your phone off will keep the alarm open.
Additional Features

Want to Learn More?

You now know the basics of raising an alarm. Your app also contains additional features that can help keep you safe β€” especially for higher-risk work. Your employer should have provided guidance on which to use.

Select any feature to learn more, or skip to the end.

Voice Memo

Voice Memo

A short recording β€” like a voicemail β€” that gives the Alarm Response Centre helpful context if an alarm is raised. Available to them for 24 hours after recording.

When to use: Higher risk tasks, or when inside large/multi-storey buildings where GPS can't track your floor.

How to record: Tap the Voice Memo button and record your message β€” up to 45 seconds.

Manual Position

Update Your Location Manually

Your app automatically collects GPS location data so the Alarm Response Centre knows where to send help.

Manually log your position before entering large buildings or areas with poor signal. If you need to add more detail about your specific floor or location, record a voice memo too.

Tap Manual Position on the app home screen to update your location instantly.

Feature overview
Text & Log Activity

Timed Activity

Set a timer for a specific task. If you don't cancel it in time, Peoplesafe will call you twice β€” then raise an alarm if there's no response.

When to use: Entering unsafe properties, meeting a volatile person, working at height, or in confined spaces.

What to include: Enough detail to help the ARC understand your situation β€” especially your location within a large building, as GPS can't track your floor.

You can extend or cancel your activity at any time in the app.

Travelsafe

How Travelsafe Works

Travelsafe estimates how long your journey should take and sets an automatic timer based on your expected arrival time.

🏁 Automatic arrival: When you reach your destination, your journey ends automatically β€” no action needed.

⏱️ Smart timer: For driving and cycling journeys, Travelsafe checks your progress 10 minutes before estimated arrival and extends the timer automatically if needed.

πŸ“ž If you don't arrive: Travelsafe will call your phone twice. If there's no response, an alarm is raised.

Welfare Checks

Responding to a Welfare Check

At set intervals you'll receive a welfare check notification. You have 10 minutes to respond.

Tap Yes to confirm you are safe. Tap No to immediately raise an alarm.

If you don't respond:

  • A call is made from +44 203 535 6644 after 5 minutes.
  • A second call is made 5 minutes later if unanswered.
  • If neither call is answered, an alarm is raised.

πŸ’‘ Your timer continues to run in the background throughout this process.

πŸ“± Save our number β€” scan the QR code on slide 2 to save the Peoplesafe number so you never miss a welfare check call.
Check In / Out

Select the Check In option in your app β€” what happens?

Check In & Out

Check In & Check Out

Check in and check out let you record when you start and finish work safely. Your Manager can view these in the Nexus portal to confirm you are safe.

⚠️ Important: Check in & out has no automatic alarm. If you don't check out, your Manager may contact you β€” but the app will not automatically raise an alarm. If you need an alarm raised, use Timed Activity instead.
Check In Timer

Check In with a Timer

A Check-in Timer lets you set an end time for when you expect to be home safely. If you don't check out or respond to reminders by that time, an alarm is raised on your behalf.

When you're home safely, tap the Check In tile to check out β€” you can do this at any time before your end time.

If you don't check out on time, Peoplesafe will call your phone twice. If there's still no response, an alarm is raised.
