What to expect during a device firmware update

We may occasionally need to perform a remote firmware update to your Peoplesafe device. This article explains what to expect and how the process works for your specific device.

What is a firmware update?

Firmware is the software that runs on your device, similar to the operating system on a smartphone. We  update the firmware to improve performance, add new features, and ensure your device continues to work reliably and effectively.

Updates are sent "over-the-air" (OTA), which means it's sent to your device remotely, without the need for you to connect it to a computer or send it back to us. You do not need to do anything to start this process.

Important: What you need to know

The update process will happen automatically in the background. Please keep these key points in mind:

  • Battery level: Your device must be powered on with a battery level of more than 50%.
  • Duration: The update will take up to 5 minutes to complete.
  • Device function: During the update, your device cannot be used to raise an alarm, or for any other function.
  • Do not turn off the device while the update is in progress.

If your device has a battery level of 50% or less when the update is initiated, it will not proceed. We will automatically reattempt the update for any devices that do not complete the process at a later time.

How to identify an ongoing update

The way your device indicates an update is in progress varies by model.

MySOS 621 & MySOS 640

During the update, the LED lights on your device will all flash in unison. This will last for up to 5 minutes while the new firmware is being installed.

MySOS 4G ID Badge

Your device's LCD screen will display a series of messages to show the progress of the update:

  1. "Download Firmware" - The device is downloading the new firmware.
  2. "Firmware updating" - The device is installing the new firmware.
  3. "OTA" - The update is complete.

What happens if something goes wrong?

We monitor the update process closely for all devices.

  • If your device has a low battery, we will automatically reattempt the update at a later time.
  • In the unlikely event of a failed update, the device will automatically restore the previous working firmware.

If you believe the update is taking too long (e.g., more than 10 minutes), or if you have any other questions, please contact our support team.

What to do after the update

Once the update is complete, your device will return to its normal state and be fully functional. You can continue to use it as you normally would.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact our support team.
