Enabling Notifications for Team Broadcast

To receive Team Broadcast messages, it's essential that you have enabled notifications for the Peoplesafe app on your mobile device.  You will have already enabled these permissions during the intial installation of the Peoplesafe app.

Here's how to check and enable these permissions:

iOS (iPhone)

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Peoplesafe.
  3. Tap on Notifications.
  4. Ensure that Allow Notifications is toggled on (it should be green).
  5. For the best experience and to receive all types of Team Broadcast messages, we recommend enabling the following:
    • Lock Screen: To see notifications when your phone is locked.
    • Notification Center: To view past notifications.
    • Banners: To see notifications when your phone is unlocked. You can choose between temporary or persistent banners.
    • Sounds: To receive an audible alert for notifications.
    • Badges: To see a number on the Peoplesafe app icon indicating unread messages.
    • Critical Alerts: It is highly recommended that you allow Critical Alerts for the Peoplesafe app. Critical alerts are used for urgent safety information and can override your phone's "Do Not Disturb" settings to ensure you receive them.

Note: Even if the app is "force closed" swiping it away from the app switcher), notifications will typically still come through. iOS handles the display of the notification. If the user taps the notification, the app will be launched.

Android

The steps may vary slightly depending on your Android device manufacturer and version, but generally:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on Apps or Notifications.
  3. Find and tap on Peoplesafe in the list of apps.
  4. Tap on Notifications.
  5. Ensure that All Peoplesafe notifications are turned on.
  6. Tap on Notification categories (or similar) and ensure that all categories, including any related to "Critical Alerts" or "Priority Notifications," are enabled.
  7. You may also need to check your device's Do Not Disturb settings to ensure that Peoplesafe is allowed to send priority notifications or is exempt from being silenced.

Note: "Force closing" an app on Android is a more aggressive action than on iOS.

Android intentionally blocks all further activity for that app, including push notifications. The app essentially enters a "stopped" state, and none of its code (including broadcast receivers that handle notifications) will run until the user explicitly re-launches the app.

Summary

By ensuring notifications are enabled for the Peoplesafe app, especially Critical Alerts, you will receive important Team Broadcast messages promptly.

And, for Android, by ensuing the Peoplesafe app is NOT 'forced closed', you will receive important Team Broadcast messages.
