Knowing the different types of alarms is essential for interpreting alerts correctly and responding appropriately. Alarm Types can be found on the Dashboard, Alarms Report and Closed Alarm Reports.
Below is a breakdown of the four main alarm types used within the Peoplesafe system:
๐ False Alarm
What is it?
A False Alarm occurs when a user accidentally activates their alarm, but there is no actual risk or threat to their safety.
Example:
- The alarm is triggered unintentionally while handling the device or app.
๐งช Planned Alarm
What is it?
A Planned Alarm is a deliberate activation of the alarm for testing or setup purposes. These are not emergencies but are important for ensuring the device is functioning correctly.
Types of Planned Alarms:
- Activation Call: Used when a user first receives their device or app, to check the microphone, speaker, and GPS.
- Test: A routine check to ensure the device is working as expected. Often referred to as an activation call.
โ ๏ธ Precautionary Alarm
What is it?
A Precautionary Alarm is triggered when a user feels uneasy or at potential risk, but emergency services are not contacted. The Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) monitors the situation and provides support as needed.
Example:
- A user feels unsafe walking to their vehicle at night and activates the alarm for reassurance.
๐จ Incident
What is it?
An Incident is a serious situation where emergency services are contacted, either by the user or by the ARC. Even if emergency services are later stood down, the alarm is still classified as an incident.
Example:
- A medical emergency, personal threat, or serious accident requiring immediate response.
โ Why This Matters
Understanding these alarm types helps:
- Ensure accurate reporting and response
