Understanding Alarm Triggers

Peoplesafe alarms can be triggered in a variety of ways, depending on the situation and the device or app being used. Understanding these triggers helps ensure accurate reporting, better user support, and improved safety oversight.

๐Ÿ†˜ SOS Alarm

Trigger: Press and hold the SOS button on a device or app for 4 seconds.
Purpose: Used in emergencies to request immediate help.
Note: Rarely triggered accidentally. If it is, itโ€™s often due to the device being worn inappropriately.

๐Ÿค• Fall Detection

Trigger: Automatically activated when the device detects a fall using tilt, freefall, and non-movement sensors.
Purpose: To alert the ARC if a user has potentially fallen.
Note: Can be cancelled if triggered accidentally. False alarms often occur when the device is worn incorrectly. Read more here.

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Discreet Alarm (App Only)

Trigger: Activated through the Peoplesafe App using discreet gestures (e.g. shaking the phone or pressing the lock button, depending on settings).
Purpose: Allows users to raise an alarm without drawing attention.
Tip: Adjust sensitivity in app settings to reduce false alarms.

๐Ÿšจ Duress Alarm

Trigger:

  • Responding โ€œNoโ€ to a welfare check (App Only).
  • Entering a duress code (0000 or 9999) when proimpted for a PIN code.

Purpose: Used when a user is under threat but cannot speak freely.
Tip: Ensure users are aware of their PIN code if PINs are enabled.

โฑ๏ธ Timed Activity Overrun

Trigger: A timed activity is not cancelled before the end of the set period, and the user does not answer follow-up calls.
Purpose: Ensures users are safe after completing a task.
Tip: Set personal reminders (Devices) or use visible countdowns in the app to avoid false alarms.

๐Ÿ“ Check-In Timer Overrun

Trigger: The user fails to check out by the set time and does not respond to follow-up calls.
Purpose: Confirms the user has safely completed their working day.
Tip: Set personal reminders (Devices) or use visible countdowns in the app to avoid false alarms.

โœ… Welfare Check Failed (Phone Only)

Trigger: The user does not respond to the welfare check prompt within 14 minutes.
Purpose: Ensures user wellbeing during lone working.
Note: Two automated reminder calls are made before the alarm is raised.

๐Ÿ”˜ Bluetooth Accessory (App Only)

Trigger: A connected Bluetooth accessory (e.g. button) is used to raise an alarm.
Purpose: Offers a quick and discreet way to trigger an alarm. Read more here.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Created Alarm

Trigger: Manually opened by an Alarm Controller.
Purpose: Used to review a userโ€™s profile, test escalation processes, or respond to a managerโ€™s request.

๐Ÿš— Vehicle Incident

Trigger: Automatically raised when a vehicle crash is detected, either by the Peoplesafe app when iPhone or Apple Watch crash detection is enabled, or by an installed SureCam device.
Purpose: Alerts the ARC to a potential vehicle accident.
