What is a voice memo?

A voice memo is a simple voice recording or message, similar to a voicemail, that is accessible to the ARC for 24 hours after it is recorded. It allows you to provide additional information that may help give context to the situation if an alarm is raised.

When should I leave a voice memo?

You should leave a voice memo in the following situations:

1. Increased risk tasks: When completing a task with increased risk, such as entering a property that feels unsafe, meeting with a person known to be volatile, climbing a ladder, or working in confined spaces.

2. Working in a large or multi-storey building: Our service regularly records location information, so you don’t need to provide the address of your location. However, because GPS is not 3D, recording your location within the building will help emergency services reach you more quickly.

3. Sharing your device: If you are sharing your device and using it now, record your name and number on the voice memo so the Alarm Controller knows who has the device if an alarm is raised.

How does this help me when I raise an alarm?

A voice memo can help the Alarm Controller deliver a more informed response to an alarm, as they will have more context than without it. The Alarm Controller will review voice memos to understand additional information, which could help clarify the situation surrounding the alarm, pinpoint your location within a building, or identify the person using the device.

How do I record a voice memo?

These steps walk you through recording your voice memo. Your message can be up to $45$ seconds long.

1. Start Recording: Press and hold the button on your device for $4$ seconds.

2. Listen for the Prompt: The device will announce: "This is the voice memo desk. Please leave your full name, company name, and a clear message after the tone."

3. Record Your Message: After the tone, speak your message. Remember to keep it under $45$ seconds.

4. Confirm and End: The recording will stop automatically after $45$ seconds, or when you stop speaking. The device will then state: "Thank you for calling, Goodbye."

5. End Early (Optional): If you need to stop the recording before the $45$-second limit or before the device automatically ends it, press and release the SOS button.
