Troubleshooting Data Connection Issues with your eSIM

If you're experiencing data connection problems with your Roamsafe eSIM on your Android phone, especially if you're using a Google Pixel device, it's possible the APN (Access Point Name) settings need to be configured. Here's how to check and correct them:

1. Access eSIM Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs.
  • Select your Roamsafe eSIM (it might be labeled "Peoplesafe" or similar).

2. Check APN Settings:

  • Look for "Access Point Names" (APN) or a similar option. It might be under "Advanced" or "Mobile networks."
  • If you don't see any APNs listed, or if the listed APNs don't seem correct, you'll need to add one.

3. Add or Edit the APN:

  • Adding an APN: Tap the "+" button or the three dots menu and select "New APN."
  • Editing an APN: If an APN is already listed, select it to edit.

4. APN Settings for Roamsafe:

Enter the following information in the APN settings:

  • Name: Peoplesafe (or anything descriptive like Roamsafe Internet)
  • APN: peoplesafe (This is the crucial part. It must be exactly peoplesafe in lowercase)
  • Other fields: Leave the other fields blank or as they are by default. Do not change the MCC or MNC unless specifically instructed to by Peoplesafe support.

5. Save the APN:

Tap the three dots menu and select "Save."

6. Select the APN:

Make sure the newly created or edited "internet" APN is selected. You might need to restart your phone for the changes to take effect.

7. Test the Connection:

After saving the APN and restarting (if necessary), test your data connection by opening the Peoplesafe app and performing a "Check In/Out" or sending a "Manual Position" update. A successful confirmation indicates a working data connection through the eSIM.

Important Notes:

  • Pixel Phones: Google Pixel phones are known to sometimes require manual APN configuration for eSIMs. If you're using a Pixel and experiencing data issues, this is the first thing to check.
  • Other Android Devices: While less common on other Android devices, incorrect APN settings can still cause data connectivity problems. If you've followed the general installation instructions and are still having issues, checking the APN is a good troubleshooting step.
  • Contact Support: If you continue to experience data connection issues after checking and configuring the APN, please contact Peoplesafe support for further assistance. They can help diagnose and resolve the problem.
