  • Select appropriate products for Deaf or hard of hearing users.
  • Understand best practices for alarm handling and communication.
  • Access and use training resources effectively.

Creating User Profiles

βœ… Best Practices

  • Always create individual profiles for users with medical conditions.
  • Avoid shared profiles unless absolutely necessary.

πŸ”§ Steps to Add Hearing Information

  1. Enable the Hearing Impairment option.
  2. Choose Full or Partial from the dropdown.
  3. Under Distinguishing Features, select Medical.
  4. Add relevant notes in the Add Information section.
  5. Click the + icon to confirm

⚠️ Shared Profiles

  • If shared use is unavoidable, clearly state who the medical information applies to in the distinguishing features.
  • Set an SMS activity via phone or use the Text Activity Tile in the app when lone working, stating who is using the shared product.
  • Shared devices are not recommended for Deaf lone workers.

Selecting the Right Product

πŸ“± Recommended Products

  • Phone services are preferred for individuals who are deaf.
  • Pro Application offers:
    • Visual location logging
    • Text-based activity setup
    • SOS alarm activation

πŸ”” Alarm Access

  • Both Pro App and Standard Mobile support:
    • SMS alarms
    • Timer creation
  • Devices offer some haptic feedback (e.g., vibration), but may be less effective.
  • Ensure the user’s phone number is accurate for ARC communication.

Alarm Handling

πŸ›‘οΈ Alarm Response Team

  • Controllers are highly trained in lone worker alarms.
  • Profiles indicate hearing status (full/partial).
  • Communication is via SMS.
  • Live audio is used to assess the situation and verify alarms.

πŸ“ Best Practice for Deaf Users

  • Deaf users are encouraged to log text activities for their tasks.
  • This provides contextual information about their work and associated risks.
  • In the event of an alarm, this information helps the Alarm Response Centre (ARC) respond more effectively.
